Based on actual events, Mango Rains is the epic account of a woman’s lifelong search for her abducted daughter. It is a story, at times sad, at times heartwarming, of two women’s strength and endurance battling their way through a life of corruption, deceit and an uncaring underworld of exploitation, all the while hoping for a miracle outcome.
5.0 out of 5 – Great Read – This is the best book I’ve read in years. It brought me to tears in places. Great insights into Thai culture and people, but even if you are not familiar with Thailand you will be captivated by this story. It is a story about humanity that will move you. There are a lot of “foreigner meets Thai lady” books published in Thailand. There are a great many “I survived the hell of a Thai prison” books, and a few “Golden Triangle Drug Gangster hard-bitten private eye” books from the region. This is nothing like any of those. This is a story that will hook you immediately and cause you to cheer for the main characters and cry along with them.

Mango Rains is an epic tale of both a woman’s search for her daughter, and the daughter’s search for herself. – The book follows Nid’s desperate attempts to find Lek after her friend commits suicide, leaving no clue as to the baby’s whereabouts. Over 21 years Nid searches all over the country for her daughter. Lek on the other hand, is thrown into some dark situations throughout her life – a beggar, an orphan, a sister to other child beggars, Lek lives her life from one situation to the next. She falls in love, experiences heartbreak and despair, loses her best friend and unwittingly becomes involved in a murderous drug war.
